Why theater timing is different
A night at the theater runs on a fixed clock. Broadway houses bag-check at the doors and hold latecomers until a scene break; the Metropolitan Opera opens the house 45 minutes early and seats no one late until intermission; Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center seat latecomers only at a pause. Plan to be dropped about 30 minutes before a Broadway curtain, and longer for the opera.
The other constraint is the curb. Broadway itself is closed to traffic through the Times Square plaza between 42nd and 47th, so the drop is always a cross street off Sixth, Seventh, or Eighth Avenue. We know which one each house uses.
Pre-theater dinner without missing the show

For an 8 PM curtain, book dinner around 6, tell the captain you have a show, and hold the car for the short hop from the table to the theater.
